{"id":738,"date":"2024-10-29T03:22:33","date_gmt":"2024-10-29T03:22:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bantaybalita.com\/?p=738"},"modified":"2024-10-29T03:22:33","modified_gmt":"2024-10-29T03:22:33","slug":"volunteer-group-wraps-up-padayon-series-empowers-youth-as-mental-health-advocates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bantaybalita.com\/index.php\/2024\/10\/29\/volunteer-group-wraps-up-padayon-series-empowers-youth-as-mental-health-advocates\/","title":{"rendered":"Volunteer group wraps up \u2018Padayon\u2019 series, empowers youth as mental health\u00a0advocates"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In a significant finale to its three-year \u2018Padayon\u2019 journey,&nbsp;<strong>I am MAD (Making A Difference) Volunteers, Inc.<\/strong>&nbsp;recently hosted an engaging gathering at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City, uniting over&nbsp;<strong>500&nbsp;<\/strong>youth in a vibrant celebration of mental health advocacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through inspiring narratives, heartfelt poetry, and engaging performances, the&nbsp;<strong>\u2018MAD Talks Padayon\u2019<\/strong>&nbsp;event highlighted the vital role of community support in addressing mental health challenges, fostering a renewed commitment among youth to embrace volunteerism and advocate for mental health awareness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event featured poems from&nbsp;<em>Mga Tala at Tula (MTAT) Community<\/em>&nbsp;from author&nbsp;<strong>Ron Canimo&nbsp;<\/strong>and centered on the theme&nbsp;<em>\u201cNagmahal, Nasaktan, Nagvolunteer at Padayon!\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;It emphasized the profound impact of life, love, grief, and volunteerism on mental health and resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The power of poetry and storytelling<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Canimo captivated the audience with his poem \u201c911\u201d from&nbsp;<em>Sa Buwan Kita Natagpuan<\/em>, sharing how writing helped him through dark times.&nbsp;<em>\u201cMas gusto mong gumising sa umaga na alam mong may handang umunawa sa\u2019yo, at sa mga gabing pagod ka, gusto mo ng pangangamusta\u2026\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;he shared during his poetry reading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Former Pinoy Big Brother housemate&nbsp;<strong>Sky Quizon<\/strong>&nbsp;candidly shared his journey with multiple mental health disorders, highlighting how these challenges have shaped his resilience and gratitude for life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am MAD co-founder&nbsp;<strong>Christian Marx Rivero<\/strong>&nbsp;highlighted the organization&#8217;s growth from two volunteers to nearly 600, impacting over 4,800 students in 14 years. \u201c<em>Piliin maging bahagi ng solusyon, hindi ng problema<\/em>,\u201d he emphasized, showcasing the passion behind their success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the&nbsp;<em>\u2018Kwentong Nagmahal\u2019&nbsp;<\/em>segment, volunteer lead for international relations&nbsp;<strong>Jao Jundam<\/strong>&nbsp;remembered his best friend Bea, who passed away during the pandemic, reflecting on their deep bond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jake A. Villanueva<\/strong>, I am MAD\u2019s content lead, opened up about his grief after losing his grandmother and mother in 2022, discussing the challenges of vulnerability and finding peace amid loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kaye Chia<\/strong>, team lead for a MAD Camp, shared how life-saving surgery led her to discover her purpose through volunteering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mental health coach&nbsp;<strong>Ymari Kristia Pascua<\/strong>&nbsp;reflected on her journey, emphasizing self-care, self-love, and the importance of a strong support system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs part of the FEU Anti-Bullying Core Group, I\u2019ve seen how a single story can impact many souls. Our scars show how we\u2019ve lived through pain. I\u2019m grateful to be part of MAD Talks Padayon 2024, advocating for mental health awareness,\u201d said attendee&nbsp;<strong>Berlheyn Maggay<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Final chapter of \u2018MAD Talks Padayon\u2019<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>During the event, I am MAD co-founder and chief executive volunteer&nbsp;<strong>Maco Ravanzo&nbsp;<\/strong>announced the conclusion of the \u2018MAD Talks Padayon\u2019 series. \u201cWith heavy hearts but smiles on our faces, we announce the end of our MAD Talks Padayon series,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ravanzo emphasized that the true measure of success in advocacy is recognizing when a project is no longer needed because its impact has taken root and change is underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re saying farewell to our MAD Talks Padayon not because we didn\u2019t succeed, but because our success allows us to shift our focus to the advocacies that other volunteers need,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u2018MAD Talks Padayon\u2019 series began in 2022 at RCBC Theater in Makati City and continued in 2023 at Jose Rizal University Theater in Mandaluyong City.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In its final run, I am MAD collaborated with SM Cares and the National Youth Commission to engage local youth leaders and students, empowering them to champion mental health advocacy. The initiative was also supported by CID Communication, Photo X Media Studios, Delight 37:4, PageOne Media Group, WhenInManila.com, and The New Channel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The dawn of \u2018Padayon\u2019 journal<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the announcement, the organizing team launched the journal&nbsp;<em>Sa Ngayon, Padayon<\/em>, unveiling its cover to mark a new project dedicated to capturing the inspiring stories of I am MAD volunteers alongside inspiring poems from Mga Tala at Tula by @roncanimoph.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Designed for reflection and action, the journal offers a space to document one&#8217;s journey and celebrate commitment to making a difference.
