During a recent event in Naic, Cavite, the senator distributed vital aid, including wheelchairs, eyeglasses, medicines, and dentures, to community members in need. He shared insights from the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting how increased utility consumption created financial strain on households. This experience inspired him to propose a bill allowing utility payments to be made in three installments, helping families manage their expenses more effectively.
Set to launch in January 2025, the LITAW program—standing for Liwanag , Internet, Water, Assistance, and Welfare—aims to offer comprehensive support to communities nationwide, from Zamboanga to Aparri, following disasters such as super typhoons, fires, and earthquakes.
The program outlines a straightforward process for families in distress. When a calamity occurs, the head of the household should first seek assistance from their Mayor or Barangay Captain to begin repairs on their damaged homes. However, utility companies, such as Meralco, still require prompt bill payments, which can lead to service disconnections. Through the LITAW initiative, the government will cover these critical expenses for affected families, alleviating their immediate financial burdens during recovery.
Senator Tolentino reaffirmed his commitment to the well-being of his constituents, assuring them that the necessary support will be available when they need it most. As the author of the LITAW program, he is dedicated to making a meaningful impact on the lives of those affected by disasters across the Philippines.
