2024 SOCCSKSARGEN Regional Science and Technology Week now open

THE Department of Science and Technology Region 12 (DOST XII) officially kicked off the 2024 Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) at the Veranza Activity Center in General Santos City last October 2.

With the theme, โ€œ๐‘บ๐’Š๐’š๐’†๐’๐’”๐’š๐’‚, ๐‘ป๐’†๐’Œ๐’๐’๐’๐’๐’‰๐’Š๐’š๐’‚, ๐’‚๐’• ๐‘ฐ๐’๐’๐’ƒ๐’‚๐’”๐’š๐’๐’: ๐‘ฒ๐’‚๐’ƒ๐’‚๐’๐’Š๐’Œ๐’‚๐’• ๐’”๐’‚ ๐‘ด๐’‚๐’•๐’‚๐’•๐’‚๐’ˆ, ๐‘ด๐’‚๐’ˆ๐’Š๐’๐’‰๐’‚๐’˜๐’‚, ๐‘ท๐’‚๐’๐’‚๐’•๐’‚๐’ˆ ๐’๐’‚ ๐‘ฒ๐’Š๐’๐’‚๐’ƒ๐’–๐’Œ๐’‚๐’”๐’‚๐’ โ€“ ๐‘ท๐’“๐’๐’—๐’Š๐’…๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ ๐‘บ๐’๐’๐’–๐’•๐’Š๐’๐’๐’” ๐’‚๐’๐’… ๐‘ถ๐’‘๐’†๐’๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ ๐‘ถ๐’‘๐’‘๐’๐’“๐’•๐’–๐’๐’Š๐’•๐’Š๐’†๐’” ๐’Š๐’ ๐’•๐’‰๐’† ๐‘ฎ๐’“๐’†๐’†๐’ ๐‘ฌ๐’„๐’๐’๐’๐’Ž๐’š,โ€ the three-day celebration features exhibits, technology demonstrations, and forums that focus on eco-friendly solutions in energy, agriculture, manufacturing, and other key industries.

The event also brings together innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs, and government leaders to collaborate and explore pathways toward a more resilient and sustainable future.

In his opening message, DOST XII Regional Director Engr. Sammy P. Malawan said that โ€œthis yearโ€™s RSTW will feature a diverse range of activities and milestones, underscoring the regionโ€™s unwavering commitment to innovation and community empowerment.โ€

DOST Undersecretary for Regional Operations, Engr. Sancho Mabborang, in his inspirational message, underscored how โ€œsustainable development has shifted from being an idealistic choice to an absolute necessity.โ€

He stressed that โ€œthe choices we make today will not only impact our quality of life but also determine the well-being of future generations.โ€

In his keynote address, DOST Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. said that the โ€œcelebration is not merely about recognizing past achievements, it is about shaping the future โ€“ one that demands urgent action and a collective commitment to building a green economy that benefits both people and the planet.โ€

As part of the program, awards were given to Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) graduate projects, new SETUP projects, and the Best SETUP Adopters.

The DOST also recognized new Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) projects and honored the Best CEST Community.

Adding more excitement to the program, the KatHABI Fashion Show was organized in partnership with the DOST Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI), which featured a stunning collection of garments and accessories crafted from locally sourced, sustainable textiles, highlighting the ingenuity of Filipino designers.

The fashion show was a celebration of culture, sustainability, and innovation, aligning with DOSTโ€™s vision of promoting circular economy principles and supporting local artisans and communities. (DOST XII)
